THE platinum jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will be marked in 2022 across the Commonwealth, including in Golden Plains Shire.<\/p>\n
Member for Wannon Dan Tehan, whose electorate covers part of the north and west of the Shire, is encouraging community organisations and grassroots groups to consider planting trees in honour of the Queen\u2019s 70 years of service.<\/p>\n
Under the Planting Trees for The Queen\u2019s Jubilee Program, groups and organisations could receive a grant between $2500 and $20,000.<\/p>\n
\u201cEligible groups… are invited to contact my office to discuss potential projects for nomination for an Australian Government grant to plant trees in honour of the legacy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,\u201d Mr Tehan said.<\/p>\n
\u201cDuring this time, the Queen has visited Australia on 16 occasions, and on many of these visits has planted trees at community events and ceremonies, leaving a long-lasting reminder of the special occasion for the people in those communities.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn fact, the Queen is said to have planted 1500 trees throughout her reign.\u201d<\/p>\n
Up to $100,000 will be distributed in Wannon, shared amongst 10 initiatives. To be eligible, groups must plan to plant \u201cregionally-appropriate tree species\u201d during a formal commemorative jubilee event this year, and install signage or a plaque.<\/p>\n
