{"id":80739,"date":"2022-02-25T04:45:40","date_gmt":"2022-02-24T17:45:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=80739"},"modified":"2022-02-23T11:57:55","modified_gmt":"2022-02-23T00:57:55","slug":"head-of-the-lake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/sport\/head-of-the-lake\/","title":{"rendered":"School rowing\u2019s biggest day is here"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>B<\/p>\n<p>BALLARAT Associated Schools\u2019 annual Head of the Lake is set for this Sunday, 27 February from 9am.<\/p>\n<p>Ballarat High School, Ballarat Clarendon College, St Patricks College, Loreto College, Ballarat Grammar, Damascus College and Phoenix College rowers will race down the Lake Wendouree course.<\/p>\n<p>Junior athletes in year 9 and 10 will race quad sculls, while the seniors will compete in sweep boats.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s host school is Ballarat High, and director of rowing Rob Simmons is expecting quality racing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEspecially the year 10 boys division one. There\u2019s not much dividing the top three teams,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe senior boys\u2019 division one race could be anyone\u2019s. There was six seconds separating the top three at Wendouree-Ballarat Regatta.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClarendon College are the red-hot favourites in the senior girls division one, with a real fight for second.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_82570\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82570\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-82570\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/02\/Phoenix-div-5-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-82570\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Time to train: Like all schools, Phoenix College\u2019s senior girls crew have enjoyed some early-morning sessions. Our form and technique have greatly improved,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am looking forward to being competitive on Sunday&#8230; as well as competing in my final Head of the Lake.
