THREE grassroots groups have been named as the Linton Shire Hall\u2019s new tenants for twelve months as the space transitions to a centre for community use.<\/p>\n
Having expressed interest in bringing life to the Hall last year, the Linton Craft Group, Linton Community Inc, and Linton & District Historical Society have been offered spaces to use throughout the building.<\/p>\n
Together, they will manage the facility, and the Linton Community Pantry will also remain on site.<\/p>\n
Founder of the Craft Group Jenny Grigg said her members are pleased to have access to their set space, the art room, seven days a week.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got such a great group of about 25 members, and everybody\u2019s really excited for it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s good to have our own space because the group\u2019s growing and we\u2019ve been averaging four to five new people every month.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll continue to have our craft meetings on Thursdays that anyone can come to, but we have quite a few people that do quilting and sewing who would like to use the space for their projects throughout the week.\u201d<\/p>\n
Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Gavin Gamble said he\u2019s pleased to see activity back on site.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe former Linton Shire Hall has a prominent place in the heart of Linton and a long history as the home to the old Shire of Grenville and Customer Service Centre for Golden Plains Shire council,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cCouncil is pleased to see the management and activation of this historic facility in the hands of three passionate and established community groups.<\/p>\n
\u201cCouncil is committed to supporting local community groups and providing active and accessible spaces for the Golden Plains community. The hub will ensure a successful future for the facility.<\/p>\n
\u201cCouncil looks forward to seeing the building in action at the time of our return to Linton for a council meeting.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Community Inc will be based in the old health area, office, main room, reception and storage room, and the Historical Society will use the Chamber, office, old anti-room, and kitchen.<\/p>\n
The Chamber can still be booked for community use, and the Historical Society will take over bookings this Sunday, 1 May.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
