THE Linton and District Progress Association is seeking additional members to support their work aimed at advancing and beautifying the town.<\/p>\n
Former president Kylie Turville said the organisation is keen to attract fresh faces who can come along to meetings, get to know the group and its mission, and potentially step into leadership roles.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re keen to gain some momentum, with new members who have fresh viewpoints and fresh ideas,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe currently have about 30 paid members, but we would like to expand. We encourage people to come along to the meetings so they can see what we do.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Association is about so much more than just the newsletter.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Turville said the larger the group is, the stronger the community voice is to lobby local, State and Federal governments for project funding across the town.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs the Progress Association grows, we can say to council and other organisations that we have a big membership, we represent the community, we consult them, and can bring them into projects.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we have greater community backing, it makes applying for grants much easier,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The LDPA\u2019s projects in recent times have included sourcing seating for Sussex Street community space Bennita\u2019s Garden, and planting natives and improving habitat for birds at public park Edinburgh Reserve.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also were successful with a COVID grant for equipment so that community groups could do teleconferencing,\u201d Ms Turville said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
