WITH term two underway, the Inverleigh Kindergarten Parent Committee is running their regular fundraiser, this time with a horticultural spin.<\/p>\n
Their latest initiative, Good to Grow, will run throughout the month and is being facilitated for the first time through fundraiser support platform Fundraysia.<\/p>\n
Committee vice-president Alison Doherty said although the money will go into a general pool, the group\u2019s goal for this term will be on \u201clivening\u201d their garden for the kids.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s quite dull and boring for the moment and the kids can\u2019t do much out there so we\u2019re wanting to make it a bit more interactive and safer for them,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe best way to make the kids more engaged in the garden is to make it more colourful so they want to spend time there and learn and get involved.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat means different activities like painting rocks and having our surface be safer for them with more seating.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fundraysia are providing garden tools, seeds and planting kits the purchase of which will go towards the fundraiser.<\/p>\n
The items are for sale to everyone, and Ms Doherty said one of the aims of the fundraiser is to bridge the gap between Inverleigh\u2019s primary school and kindergarten communities.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019re not as connected as we\u2019d like to be, so we don\u2019t want for there to be as much of a scary jump for the kids from kinder to school,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re trying to get the whole community involved in this as much as we can by letting parents at both levels know, and hopefully it\u2019ll have the add-on effect of integrating both kinder and older groups.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m hoping it\u2019ll do well. It\u2019s a good time of year to be buying and we\u2019ve got some beautiful little gifts in there for the kids as well.\u201d<\/p>\n
The fundraiser will run until Monday, 30 May.<\/p>\n
