WITH National Reconciliation Week getting underway soon, there\u2019s a range of events planned for Golden Plains Shire.<\/p>\n
From Friday, 27 May to Friday, 3 June, the municipality will hold a series of community events in acknowledgement of the week which recognises First Nation Australians.<\/p>\n
Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Gavin Gamble said the local events will allow residents to engage with their region\u2019s Aboriginal communities.<\/p>\n
\u201cCouncil\u2019s National Reconciliation Week activities are an excellent opportunity for the Golden Plains community to learn about our shared histories and cultures,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cCouncil is committed to reconciliation with its local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and following engagement and approval from Reconciliation Australia, the final Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan will be presented to council in the coming months.\u201d<\/p>\n
The first event will be Indigenous Storytelling at Bannockburn Library on Tuesday, 31 May which will comprise a reading of Ceremony and Somebody\u2019s Land by author, former AFL player and Adnyamathanha and Narungga man Adam Goodes.<\/p>\n
Another event will be held at the Golden Plains Youth Hub on Wednesday, 1 June at 4.30pm which will include a didgeridoo performance by Kurnai and Wotjabaluk man Norm Stanley.<\/p>\n
Indigenous Storytelling will also be open via mobile library at set locations and times across the region.<\/p>\n
On Thursday, 2 June the mobile library will be at Meredith Community Centre from 9am to 10.30am, Rokewood Police Station from 11.45am to 1pm, Dereel Community Hall from 2.15 to 3pm before finishing at Enfield\u2019s Little Hard Hills Hotel from 3.30am to 4:30pm.<\/p>\n
On Friday, 3 June the mobile library will stop at Haddon Community House from 9am to 10am, The Well in Smythesdale from 10.30am to 12pm, Linton Skate Park from 1.30pm to 2.45pm and finally at Pitfield-Scarsdale Road at Cape Clear from 3.25pm to 4pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
