SMYTHESDALE ceramicist Barry Wemyss\u2019 latest work is a program all about supporting budding creatives.<\/p>\n
The Golden Plains Shire\u2019s new Youth Art Program starts Saturday, 16 July, with participants creating a wall hung art piece for an exhibition, as well as a book about what art means to them.<\/p>\n
Wemyss, who is passionate about the arts and a contributor to the Shire\u2019s culture and heritage strategy, has facilitated similar programs across the region.<\/p>\n
Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble said events are a \u201cfantastic opportunity\u201d for young artists.<\/p>\n
\u201cBarry is leading council’s very exciting and inaugural Youth Art Program which will provide an outlet for young people to develop their own perspectives and ideas and explore them in a safe and supportive environment,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis program will be held in Smythesdale, making it easily accessible to young people in the north of the Shire. I look forward to seeing the art books and art pieces that the young people create as part of the Program.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fifteen participants will be selected for the four sessions, which take place from 9am to 12pm at The Well on 19 Heales Street.<\/p>\n
