VOLUNTEERS throughout Golden Plains are being recognised as part of a photo exhibition being held at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre.<\/p>\n
Titled Volunteers in Action, the event displays 20 photos of volunteers from 10 Shire townships.<\/p>\n
Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Gavin Gamble said the initiative highlights the efforts of the community\u2019s unpaid and unsung.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s wonderful to see so many Golden Plains residents volunteering their time to make our Shire a better place,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt shows the generous spirit of our residents and their passion for helping their communities.<\/p>\n
\u201cVolunteers are often underappreciated, with their work going under the radar, this exhibition aims to elevate Golden Plains Shire volunteers and their stories, sharing their diverse offerings with the broader community.\u201d<\/p>\n
Launched alongside Volunteer Week, each photo comes with a display detailing the stories of the subject.<\/p>\n
The pictures depict the volunteers in their respective efforts in the local community and were taken by photographer and artist Lyn Steele.<\/p>\n
Winner of the 2021 Spring in the Shire photography competition, Steele said it was a great experience capturing their efforts.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome of them were fabulous. They\u2019d turn up in their high vis and have their gardening tools or wheelbarrow or whatever. It was a great project,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd it was great for them to see the photographs too at the launch. There was a lovely feel in the room because they\u2019re all coming together and acknowledging the work that each of them do.\u201d<\/p>\n
The exhibition runs at the Bannockburn Cultural Centre until Friday, 26 August before relocating to Smythesdale\u2019s The Well from Thursday, 1 September until Wednesday, 30 November.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
