CONCERNS have been raised regarding the development of two major roundabouts connecting Bannockburn with the Midland Highway.<\/p>\n
With works for both projects set to be complete by mid-2022, the Geelong, Clyde, and Kelly roads and High Street town entrance roundabout is yet to have fixed lighting.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, despite statements from Regional Roads Victoria that works that works on the planned Clyde Road and Midland Highway would start in October last year, nothing has happened at the site.<\/p>\n
Both projects were funded with $9.7 million from both the State and Federal governments, with $3.2 million allocated to the entrance roundabout and $6.5 million for the Midland Highway intersection.<\/p>\n
The entrance roundabout was declared open in January, and temporary lighting fixtures have been in place since that time.<\/p>\n
Michael Tudball, the Department of Transport\u2019s regional director for Barwon South West said power to the roundabout\u2019s lighting is now in the hands of the supplier.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe new street lighting at the Bannockburn town entrance roundabout relies on connection and electrical work from Powercor to be completed,” he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe roundabout remains operational and temporary lighting will remain in place until the final lighting work is completed.”<\/p>\n
Powercor was contacted for comment but did not reply in time for publication.<\/p>\n
While works at the Midland Highway roundabout were initially slated for 2021, a representative of the Department of Transport said the site\u2019s development has been postponed.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnfortunately, construction to build a roundabout at the intersection of the Midland Highway and Clyde Road has been delayed,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n
