AS Inverleigh Cricket Club prepares to celebrate a major anniversary in spring, the sporting group is seeking assistance from the wider community.<\/p>\n
To ensure their 150-year milestone on Saturday, 26 November covers all decades well, and is the best it can be, the club is putting a call-out to all former members of the organisation, and their family members.<\/p>\n
President Marcus Warton said they\u2019re seeking anyone who has ever been involved, and those who may have some memorabilia or stories to share.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019d love people to get in touch if they have anything of interest that could help to tell the club\u2019s history,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe club won a lot of premierships in the post-World War Two era, but we don\u2019t really have many premiership photos or cups, so that\u2019s a real starting focus for us.<\/p>\n
\u201cHistoric Inverleigh Cricket Club hats are of interest, and some of the most significant things that people may have stashed away are old scorebooks. We\u2019re missing 60 years\u2019 worth… so there may be some random ones out there.\u201d<\/p>\n
The organisers of the celebration also have a goal to find, and meet, the club\u2019s oldest living player.<\/p>\n
\u201cBeing part of some of the newer generations of the club, we want to learn a lot about its history because we don\u2019t have a lot of older people involved anymore,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt would be great to connect with some of those people who played historically in those really successful eras and find out what the club was like.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Warton said the club\u2019s current era is a positive one, having won a premiership two years ago, and they\u2019re only gaining momentum.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re going along really well, are in our sixth year of being in the Bellarine League, and are really excited to be part of such a massive milestone as we celebrate 150 years of our club,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
