THE final breakfast has been called for a long-serving morning Voice FM radio host.<\/p>\n
Presenter of the station\u2019s regular morning and Saturday morning sports shows Neil Steinman will take a reduced role following his final breakfast appearance last Friday.<\/p>\n
Mr Steinman has hosted for the community radio station for 37 years, and said he loved filling the breakfast slot for the last 18 years.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s hard to believe breakfast is over. Not many people would probably remember that when we started, we were the only ones in this area on FM radio,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople would ring up and talk about things that were happening at the time, and I always tried to make time for everyone.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve interviewed all sorts of people too, singers, actors, sportspeople, at the highest level. It showed me that people really are just people.\u201d<\/p>\n
A carpenter by trade, Mr Steinman got involved with Voice FM while working as a teacher at Mount Clear Secondary College, where the station was also broadcasting from.<\/p>\n
He said his highlights include broadcasting the World Cup cricket match between England and Sri Lanka at Eastern Oval in 1992.<\/p>\n
While Mr Steinman will no longer host the daily morning breakfast segment, he will continue to present his Saturday sports show at a reduced timeslot from 7am to 9am.<\/p>\n
As a volunteer with the Royal South Street Society and York Street Church of Christ, Mr Steinman said he\u2019ll be looking to fill his mornings with other voluntary opportunities.<\/p>\n
He said he\u2019s grateful for the opportunities the breakfast show gave him.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s probably one of the greatest opportunities to have,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor those people that listened, I perhaps was the only person they spoke to for those hours in the early waking part of their day.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s a pretty big privilege to have, and I always tried to be helpful with the content. I think I achieved that, in most part, and I got to interview all these different people who make the town tick.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
