SMYTHESDALE\u2019S heritage precinct is set to rock like never before as the Country Market committee stages a brand-new event.<\/p>\n
Entries are now open for the Smythesdale Battle of the Bands competition, aiming to give the region\u2019s musicians aged 12 to 25 an opportunity to perform.<\/p>\n
The bands, or solo artists, will be tasked with playing their best original music, or cover song, in front of an audience of marketgoers this spring with the event held between 10am and 2pm on Saturday, 19 November.<\/p>\n
Marketing manager Jaymee Ellis said the initiative is all about giving young people their moment to shine, whether their music endeavours are serious, or more of a hobby.<\/p>\n
\u201cRestrictions and lockdowns have meant fewer performance opportunities and crowds for artists over the last few years,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe goal behind this event is to foster a creative space for young people in the area to practice their performing skills in front of a live audience.\u201d<\/p>\n
Crowd votes will be cast on the day, and prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place-getters.<\/p>\n
The Smythesdale Country Market is a regular event, held in the heritage precinct on the third Saturday of every month.<\/p>\n
Producers, makers, artists, and creators from across the broader Golden Plains Shire and Ballarat regions hold stalls at the market, and activities are often led which families can take part in together.<\/p>\n
