HISTORICAL engineering will be showcased at the airport later this month with the Ballarat Engine and Machinery Preservation Society hosting a Best of Ballarat Rally on Sunday, 16 October.<\/p>\n
Technology of a bygone era including steam and oil powered engines, and flat belt-driven machines are set go on show, joined by likeminded groups, and demonstrations.<\/p>\n
Society vice-president Peter Bandy said group members unite to celebrate and preserve all the machines that have the Ballarat, Victoria stamp on them, and to highlight the area\u2019s industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cBallarat was the nucleus in a huge industrial manufacturing sector. Ronaldson-Tippett were the biggest builder of engines south of the equator, for example, with Jelbart\u2019s, the Phoenix Foundry and more businesses also based here,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope the rally brings back childhood memories for those that come along.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event is designed to have a family focus, and society president Ben Wright said people of all ages will discover a display that captures their imagination.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere will certainly be something for everyone,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Memorabilia, an operating 1880s printing press, vintage cars, trucks and tractors, trade displays, and steam traction engine rides are also set to be drawcards.<\/p>\n
The society\u2019s neighbours, the Avro Anson Air Museum, Ballarat Aviation Museum, Ballarat and District Model Railway Club, and Air Force Association Ballarat Branch will also be part of the fun, opening their rooms to visitors.<\/p>\n
The Best of Ballarat Rally goes between 10am and 4pm at 40 Airport Road, Mitchell Park. Entry is $5 for adults and children are free.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
