BOOK lovers rejoice, the Shire is getting a new mobile library.<\/p>\n
Announced last week, the current rolling facility is set to be replaced following a grant from the State Government, along with funding from Golden Plains Shire.<\/p>\n
Budgeted at just less than $150,000, the State is putting in 75 per cent of the total cost, with the municipality paying for the rest.<\/p>\n
The mobile service is run by the Geelong Regional Library Corporation and reaches most of the Shire outside Bannockburn.<\/p>\n
\u201cLibraries are more than just a book lending service, they provide community connection and inspire lifelong learning,\u201d said Member for Buninyong, Michaela Settle.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom Dereel to Grenville, and Rokewood to Meredith, Golden Plains Shire do an amazing job of bringing libraries to local communities.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am so pleased that this funding will make sure that the Shire\u2019s great work can continue, because everyone should experience the benefits of libraries, no matter where they live.\u201d<\/p>\n
With the State\u2019s money coming from the Living Libraries Infrastructure fund, features of the new mobile facility include a wheelchair lift, as well as expected fuel cost savings and staffing flexibility.<\/p>\n
A statement released by Golden Plains Shire said the current truck will be replaced with a van that will be smaller than the current service.<\/p>\n
The mobile library offers not just books but a range of other resources from the GLRC 400,000-item collection.<\/p>\n
