SENIOR minister and Member for Western Victoria, Jaala Pulford, will not recontest her seat in the upcoming State election.<\/p>\n
The Minister for Employment, Innovation, Medical Research and the Digital Economy, Small Business, and Resources, has served as the region’s State Labor Member since 2006, but Ms Pulford said she\u2019s moving on to \u201cseek new challenges.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cRepresenting the people of Western Victoria has been an extraordinary privilege. Serving the people that rely on Labor governments has been a tremendous honour,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cNearer to home, Ballarat has enjoyed a period of revival. The city has a new gateway at the station and a GovHub built by local people with local materials.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve given my all to public life, but it\u2019s given me so much more. It\u2019s time for me to make way for the next generation, and I cannot wait to see them thrive.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Pulford will carry out her ministerial duties until the term\u2019s completion.<\/p>\n
Premier Daniel Andrews commended Ms Pulford for the roles she’s played over the past 16 years.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor as long as I\u2019ve known her, Jaala has been a devoted advocate for working people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaking their conditions better and fairer. Speaking up for them in the face of gross injustices. Protecting them from some truly shameful conditions affecting their health and wellbeing.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe made the Victorian Parliament a kinder, more thoughtful place. She gave us all cause to reflect, and to garner a little perspective. She will be sorely missed by many on both sides of the aisle.<\/p>\n
