{"id":86318,"date":"2022-11-18T04:57:11","date_gmt":"2022-11-17T17:57:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=86318"},"modified":"2022-11-18T08:47:19","modified_gmt":"2022-11-17T21:47:19","slug":"times-wins-award-for-journalism","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/times-wins-award-for-journalism\/","title":{"rendered":"Times wins award for journalism"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE <em>Golden Plains Times<\/em> has received a nod for quality journalism at the annual Victorian Country Press Association awards.<\/p>\n<p>Winning in the Best News Story Award Under 2000 Circulation category, the article titled <em>Proposed chicken farm cracks council<\/em> was published in the 2 September 2021 edition and co-written by Alistair Finlay and Edwina Williams.<\/p>\n<p>The story covered the machinations of a Golden Plains Shire council meeting, and subsequent fallout, relating to councillors\u2019 failure to make a decision on a chicken farm development in the Shelford area.<\/p>\n<p>In awarding the prize to the <em>Golden Plains Times<\/em> judge Darren Robinson noted several high-quality aspects of the article.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was a really entertaining and insightful piece of local journalism, well done,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReaders would have been drawn into the story with the intriguing headline and accompanying image. The clean layout also makes it a pleasure to read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongratulations to Alistair and Edwina for shining a light on their local council&#8217;s planning application process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-86320\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2022\/11\/chicken-farm-600x380.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"811\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2022\/11\/chicken-farm-222x300.jpg 222w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2022\/11\/chicken-farm.jpg 615w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Editor of the <em>Golden Plains Times<\/em>, and co-author of the award-winning story, Alistair Finlay, said it was rewarding and humbling to be acknowledged.<\/p>\n<p>He also said he appreciated the judge\u2019s comments regarding many aspects of the piece, not just the words.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s always gratifying when our industry peers recognise all of what we do,\u201d he said. \u201cWe try to put a focus on a collaborative approach to putting together our papers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether it\u2019s a shared by-line with our now senior journalist Edwina Williams, or crafting headlines and selecting images with our production manager Erin Bush, this award reflects the hard work of many members of the <em>Golden Plains Times<\/em> team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d like to thank the VCPA for the award and my colleagues for their ongoing support and collective dedication to our mastheads &#8211; it\u2019s impossible to do any of this without them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d also like to thank the readers of the Golden Plains Times.
