INTERNATIONAL Day of People with a Disability is coming up at the start of next month, and locals will have a chance to mark the day together at various community centres across the Shire.<\/p>\n
Golden Plains Shire council officers are hosting morning teas at Bannockburn Cultural Centre, Haddon Community Learning Centre, and Meredith Community Centre the day before, on Friday, 2 December from 11am to 2pm.<\/p>\n
Mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said there will be some presentations made at each site, and the events\u2019 formalities will be broadcast online to ensure those that can\u2019t get to their local morning tea can still be a part of it.<\/p>\n
\u201cGuests will hear from three speakers including the Central Highlands local area coordinator from Latrobe Community Health Service who will provide further information about the NDIS, a disability advocate at the Barwon Disability Resource Council who will provide further information on the BDRC services, including Assert 4 All, and local Linton artist Pam Farey who will be sharing and discussing some of her art,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cGolden Plains Shire council is dedicated to supporting people of all abilities to age well, remain connected and meaningfully participate in their community.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe International Day of People with a Disability events aim to build a community for people with disability in Golden Plains, their families and carers so they feel represented and celebrated.\u201d<\/p>\n
Farey is the creative behind Linton\u2019s Peacock Cottage Gallery and Studio, the painter of the pictures on Sussex Street\u2019s light poles, and on the bus stop shelters at Scarsdale.<\/p>\n
She started painting with her mouth, and feet, in the late-1980s, and has been an active artist in the region throughout her career.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope to bring some of my artwork to display behind me at the morning tea,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
