A FOOTPATH Renewal Program is currently underway in various locations across the Golden Plains Shire, with municipal officers aiming to repair and improve the state of problem walkways this summer.<\/p>\n
Works are set for Haddon, Inverleigh, Rokewood, and Scarsdale, and mayor Cr Brett Cunningham said they\u2019re all about the safety of pedestrians.<\/p>\n
\u201cCouncil is committed to providing well maintained, connected and accessible crossings and paths for all Golden Plains Shire residents,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cPedestrian safety improvements are an important priority for communities across the Shire and council meets regularly with the Department of Transport to advocate for pedestrian and road safety improvements on their roads.\u201d<\/p>\n
A concrete footpath is to be installed outside Rokewood Primary School, and asphalt outside Haddon Primary School is to be improved before term one commences.<\/p>\n
Along the Tannery Road floodway at Scarsdale, the pedestrian walkway is to be levelled and improved, and the number of channels to be increased.<\/p>\n
A gravel footpath is to be put along Ferrars Road, Rokewood, a gravel walkway on Ross Creek-Haddon Road at Haddon is to be upgraded, and at Inverleigh, just north of Cambridge and Newman streets, a flood-damaged path is to be repaired.<\/p>\n
\u201cCouncil regularly works to identify upgrade projects, through hazard inspections, accident statistics and feedback from the community, as well as in locations where there are increased traffic movements around schools, recreation and community facilities or new developments that create increased pedestrian movements,\u201d a statement from the Shire said.<\/p>\n
