{"id":87285,"date":"2023-01-27T04:59:14","date_gmt":"2023-01-26T17:59:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=87285"},"modified":"2023-01-27T12:38:57","modified_gmt":"2023-01-27T01:38:57","slug":"awards-highlight-local-achievements","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/awards-highlight-local-achievements\/","title":{"rendered":"Awards highlight local achievements"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>INDIVIDUAL and group achievements made throughout the region last year were celebrated on Tuesday afternoon as part of the Golden Plains Shire Council.<\/p>\n<p>The event was held at the Dereel Community Hall where the winners of this year\u2019s Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, and Community Impact awards recipients were announced.<\/p>\n<p>Smythesdale resident Jaymee Ellis took home the Citizen of the Year Award for her community contributions with the Smythesdale Country Market, Woady Yaloak Recreation Facility, and fitness program GenkiFit.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_87287\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-87287\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-87287\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/01\/0G2A0406-scaled-e1674622701683-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/01\/0G2A0406-scaled-e1674622701683-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/01\/0G2A0406-scaled-e1674622701683-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/01\/0G2A0406-scaled-e1674622701683-768x1151.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/01\/0G2A0406-scaled-e1674622701683.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-87287\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Golden Plains Shire\u2019s 2022 Citizen of the Year, Jaymee Ellis<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She said it was \u201cabsolutely crazy\u201d to receive the honour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were some amazing people in the category with massive resumes of community work. I\u2019m just happy to have been a part of it and insanely lucky to be the winner,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think my volunteer role with the Smythesdale Country Market is what led me to this.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot only has it grown to 50 stalls from about eight, it\u2019s brought people from the Shire and Ballarat to the town.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVolunteering is so rewarding.
