SHAKESPEAREAN theatre is returning to Buninyong Botanic Gardens this weekend and next.<\/p>\n
The Bard in Buninyong is set to stage The Two Noble Kinsmen<\/em> over eight performances from tonight, which director Susan Pilbeam describes as a \u201ctragi-comic action romance.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s an old story about two men that fall in love with the same woman, and it actually has the line, \u2018I saw her first,\u2019 in it, which is incredible,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cThey\u2019re blood brothers, cousins, and completely devoted to each other, but this tears them apart, and they end up in a duel to the death over her.<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s also a sub-plot, because it\u2019s Shakespeare, which is about the jailer\u2019s daughter who falls in love with one of the princes, but of course, he doesn\u2019t know that she\u2019s alive.\u201d<\/p>\n Fifteen local actors are part of The Two Noble Kinsmen\u2019s cast, alongside seven young people as Amazons, and Pilbeam encourages audiences to come out and see them in action in the heritage garden.<\/p>\n \u201cA lot of people don\u2019t know about this space, which is a lovely intimate place to play a show,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Actor Zoe James is bringing Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, to life.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m enjoying playing a really strong, female character and having a lot of fun with it too,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n \u201cThe last Shakespeare we staged was A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 2020, and it\u2019s so nice to be back performing in the space.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Two Noble Kinsmen is a play that hasn\u2019t been done a lot, and I hadn\u2019t heard of it, so come along and see it.\u201d<\/p>\n Live musical entertainment by local artists and groups goes before and after each performance with funding support from Community Bank Buninyong.<\/p>\n The Two Noble Kinsmen runs this weekend and next.
