{"id":87593,"date":"2023-02-10T04:59:17","date_gmt":"2023-02-09T17:59:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=87593"},"modified":"2023-02-10T09:16:42","modified_gmt":"2023-02-09T22:16:42","slug":"a-quacking-season-of-events","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/a-quacking-season-of-events\/","title":{"rendered":"A quacking season of events"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE next few weeks are set to be big for communities across Golden Plains Shire with three major events on the horizon.<\/p>\n<p>The iconic Shelford Duck Race is back this year, to be held on the same day as the Smythesdale Arts and Music Fiesta on Sunday, 26 February, while the Inverleigh Dachshund Derby Day is set for the following weekend, Sunday 5 March.<\/p>\n<p>Shelford Duck Race organiser Glenn Jeffery said their aim is to attract a crowd of at least 2000, and the event usually draws people from as far as Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like to walk the crowd, find out who people are and where they\u2019ve come from, tell them about the town and what we do,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_87594\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-87594\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-87594\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/02\/IMG_3884-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/02\/IMG_3884-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/02\/IMG_3884-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/02\/IMG_3884-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/02\/IMG_3884-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/02\/IMG_3884-2048x1365.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/02\/IMG_3884-272x182.jpg 272w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-87594\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Inverleigh Dachshund Derby Day program features races, outfit competitions, stalls and more.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThere are complete novices, and questions like \u2018how do you train the ducks?\u2019 from people who don\u2019t realise they\u2019re plastic, to those who come every year and wear a duck-related t-shirt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of Mr Jeffery\u2019s main objectives, alongside showcasing Shelford, is to get more locals involved and enjoying the fun of the festival of rubber ducks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I appreciate the most is locals getting involved, being out and about and feeling proud of their community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to bring people out and make the set-up and pack-up a bit of an event. We have people come from all over Victoria.
