{"id":88095,"date":"2023-03-02T04:57:45","date_gmt":"2023-03-01T17:57:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=88095"},"modified":"2023-03-02T11:54:56","modified_gmt":"2023-03-02T00:54:56","slug":"meet-a-creative-in-their-studio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/meet-a-creative-in-their-studio\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet a creative in their studio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE studios of some of Golden Plains Shire\u2019s northern-most artists and craftspeople will be open to the public this weekend as part of the returning Hidden Gems initiative.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, 4 and Sunday, 5 March, people can enjoy the miniature arts trail between 10am and 4pm by exploring the studios of painters, a printmaker, artisan furniture maker, a ceramicist, and Aboriginal art specialist at Haddon, Nintingbool, and Cambrian Hill.<\/p>\n<p>Visitors will have the opportunity to connect with creatives, see their practice in action, and to purchase unique, handmade work.<\/p>\n<p>Ceramic sculptor and potter Steve Drew is one of the makers involved who set up his workshop in the bush in 1973.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve always had a love of clay, the tactile qualities of it, and what you can do with it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI concentrate less on domestic work now, and do a lot more sculptural-type work, although I still make bowls for general use.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_87946\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-87946\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-87946\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/03\/Steve-Drew-300x239.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"239\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/03\/Steve-Drew-300x239.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/03\/Steve-Drew-768x613.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/03\/Steve-Drew.jpg 875w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-87946\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sculptures by Steve Drew.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI basically work around the image of the horse, which has always kept me interested, even from when I was at art school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a subtleness to these works which are simplified, rather than being decorative with lots of brush-on colour. They\u2019ve got a bit more zen about them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Drew said there\u2019s been a small resurgence in pottery in the surrounding area and he encourages the public to head along and see the talent in the Shire\u2019s north.<\/p>\n<p>Vida Pearson and Fred Ross, Stella Clarke, Kate Wise, and Raintree Art are also taking part.
