A MEGA Lego experience is aiming to inspire children to get hands on at the Bannockburn library.<\/p>\n
Every Wednesday kids aged five and up gather to test their creativity.<\/p>\n
Tara, the manager of children and youth services at Geelong regional libraries, said the Lego club is a way children can come together to use their imagination.<\/p>\n
\u201cAcross all of our libraries we offer different versions of Lego, so Bannockburn is offering the mega club which is about freestyling and building on children\u2019s social skills and flexible thinking,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s the benefit of play which sometimes we overlook, and I think using Lego to assist that learning allows children to not just build with the blocks but also their social and emotional skills.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tara said the club is also a way for parents to connect with their children.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a great opportunity for parents to sit down and have some play time with their children in a space outside of their homes,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe recognise that some families may not have the opportunity to play with Lego at home so it\u2019s about creating equity and access.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs the children age, the group ages with it so we can amend these programs accordingly and Lego is such a great medium because there is so much you can do with it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tara said she the program also works to promote regional libraries.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe hope is that people realise the library is for everybody and it\u2019s a safe, fun and inclusive space,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Bookings are not required, and anyone is welcome to drop by. The sessions run Wednesdays from 3.45pm until 4.45pm.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
