{"id":88312,"date":"2023-03-18T04:57:15","date_gmt":"2023-03-17T17:57:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=88312"},"modified":"2023-03-15T16:14:02","modified_gmt":"2023-03-15T05:14:02","slug":"rotarys-speakers-to-support-wrisc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/rotarys-speakers-to-support-wrisc\/","title":{"rendered":"Rotary\u2019s speakers to support WRISC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THREE hundred Rotarians representing fifty western Victorian and South Australian Rotary clubs will be in Ballarat next week.<\/p>\n<p>The Rotary clubs of Ballarat are hosting the Rotary District 9780 Conference at Mercure Ballarat from Friday, 24, to Sunday, 26 March.<\/p>\n<p>Their aim is to bring likeminded Rotarians together to network, share ideas and celebrate all they\u2019ve achieved in their communities, and internationally.<\/p>\n<p>High-profile guest speakers, author and educator John Marsden and former tennis player Jelena Dokic, will be headlining the event, and their talks are open to the public,<\/p>\n<p>Topics on the agenda include reading to children, and domestic violence.<\/p>\n<p>Rotary District 9780 governor Kathy Rivett said all public ticket sales will be donated to local organisation WRISC Family Violence Support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great opportunity for us to share notable speakers with the public, while at the same time, fundraising for the prevention of domestic violence in our community,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_88297\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-88297\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-88297\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/03\/Dokic-jelena-200x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/03\/Dokic-jelena-200x300.png 200w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/03\/Dokic-jelena.png 638w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-88297\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jelena Dokic will speak about her experience as a victim and survivor of domestic violence.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got a few clubs doing \u2018say no to family violence\u2019 campaigns, and with Jelena\u2019s history, it fits in as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Marsden\u2019s many books include the iconic <em>Tomorrow When the War began<\/em>, while Jokic is the co-author of autobiography <em>Unbreakable<\/em>. Attendees will be able to ask questions, and have books signed.<\/p>\n<p>WRISC supports women and children who have experienced domestic and family violence throughout the City of Ballarat, Hepburn, Golden Plains, Pyrenees, and Moorabool Shires.<\/p>\n<p>For an additional fee, people can attend the whole program with speakers Anthony David Holmes, the surgeon who separated Bangladeshi conjoined twins Trishna and Krishna, the founder of Eat Up Lyndon Galea, Rotary District 9800 World Peace Fellow Jessica Trijsburg, ROMAC ambassador Rosie Lotawa, and flood survivor Mark O\u2019Toole.<\/p>\n<p>The public session with Marsden and Jokic will be held from 1pm to 3.30pm on Saturday, 25 March.
