COMMUNITY members of the greater Inverleigh area are invited to try lawn bowls next month.<\/p>\n
Inverleigh Bowls Club is hosting a casual social intergenerational lawn bowls afternoon on Friday, 14 April from 12pm to 2pm.<\/p>\n
Club secretary Jenny Peel said the sport is perfect for people from all walks of life, from the young to the young at heart.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s also not an overly physical sport, so you don\u2019t have to be a gun sportsperson to be good at bowls,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s good for young people to mix with the older generation. My own son started playing bowls when he was 14 or 15, and still plays now.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was able to step away from the phone and computer and have conversations with adults.<\/p>\n
\u201cOlder people really enjoy having the younger ones around because they help keep them young, and can share their stories, ideas, and values with them.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Peel said Inverleigh Bowls Club is a small, but welcoming and supportive community of about 40 members, including some new young players.<\/p>\n
They have a Mid-Week Pennant team in the Geelong Bowls Region, two Saturday Pennant teams, and run barefoot sessions once a month.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf any of our members have any difficulties or health issues, we are always there to support them,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also run a school program, which starts this week, with the Inverleigh Primary School.\u201d<\/p>\n
The come-and-try day is free to attend, and there will be a barbecue and two drinks provided to attendees.<\/p>\n
