GRAIN for Hope, a project launched in 2021 between CHS Broadbent and the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute is asking for donations to support cancer research at the Ballarat facility.<\/p>\n
FECRI Institute director Professor George Kannourakis was thrilled by farmers\u2019 generosity last year and hopes this time around will be as, or more, successful.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe as an organisation plan and rely heavily on a number of fundraising events throughout the year as well as the generous support of the community,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to continue to work with CHS Broadbent to provide a simple avenue for farmers to support this research.\u201d<\/p>\n
As part of the effort farmers donate grains to FECRI which are then sold to raise money, and last year Buangor\u2019s Nigel Hooke donated oats to the project.<\/p>\n
\u201cI got behind it as my wife is recovering from breast cancer and this is simply a good thing to do,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe process was very easy to do. Simpler even than writing a cheque or getting online.\u201d<\/p>\n
CHS Broadbent kicked off this year\u2019s fundraising with 100 tonnes of grain and has encouraged farmers who have reserves to donate.<\/p>\n
\u201cCancer has touched everyone in our community in some way, whether it\u2019s a family member, a close friend, a client, or all of the above,\u201d said company CEO Michael Broadbent.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re really happy to continue this initiative with the Fiona Elsey Institute to help raise funds and help grow a cancer-free future.<\/p>\n
\u201cDonations can be made via the CHS Broadbent Grower Portal by selecting Grain for Hope as the buyer when transferring tickets.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll donations are tax-deductible and 100 per cent of the grain value goes to cancer research, after levies are deducted.\u201d<\/p>\n
