POTENTIAL golfers are being encouraged to try their hand at a swing on the green as part of a free women\u2019s golf clinic organised by members of the Inverleigh Golf Club.<\/p>\n
The session is set to take place early next month, with Anglesea Golf Club member and former Ladies European Tour competitor Vicky Uwland hosting.<\/p>\n
Inverleigh Golf Club women\u2019s captain Deb Nicholls said the two-hour event will teach women the essentials on how to have a hit.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019ll really go back to the basics and start with how to have the correct grip and the correct stance and the correct swing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMore ladies means more members and more ladies playing sport. It\u2019s a social atmosphere too. When ladies get into golf, they have a lot of fun.\u201d<\/p>\n
About five free women\u2019s clinics were held last year thanks to a grant from the Bendigo Community Bank Winchelsea branch.<\/p>\n
With the sessions having run for close to a decade, Nicholls said their success last year led to 12 new women joining the club.<\/p>\n
The Inverleigh Golf Club currently has about 20 and 40 female and male members respectively, and she said there\u2019s definitely a need for more women taking part in the sport.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is designed to get more ladies into golf,\u201d she said. \u201cLady golfers are hard to get for various reasons. They\u2019re busy with family, work, whatever.<\/p>\n
\u201cGolf can be a little bit daunting and intimidating so we find if we offer these free clinics and get them they usually enjoy themselves, get hooked very quickly and want to keep going.\u201d<\/p>\n
Nicholls said more may be held this year following the upcoming one should the demand be there.<\/p>\n
The free women\u2019s golf session will take place on Thursday, 4 May.<\/p>\n
