EUREKA Cycling Club staged the eighth edition of the Rising Sun Trophy on Sunday, 16 April at Learmonth.<\/p>\n
Club newcomer Paul Brick landed his first handicap race win as he took the race out with an impressive display of strength and speed.<\/p>\n
Brick was instrumental in driving his two-minute group through the field to take the lead with six kilometres remaining.<\/p>\n
He launched a few attacks before landing the winning blow with just two kilometres to race and opened a gap on his fellow two minute riders who were stretched out and chasing hard.<\/p>\n
The remnants of the scratch bunch was also picking its way through the dropped riders, however Brick made it to the steep ramp of The Wall with a commanding lead.<\/p>\n
The chasers didn\u2019t see Brick again as he flew up the climb and away to the chequered flag with Stu Brien was the best of the rest, finishing in second place and also claiming the fastest time.<\/p>\n
All race entry fees and raffle takings from the day will be donated to the Avenue of Honour restoration and replanting project.<\/p>\n
Rising Sun Trophy results (51.5 Km handicap) – 1st – Paul Brick (2 min), 2nd – Stu Brien (scratch), 3rd – Dean Wells (2 min), 4th – Dayne Pearce (scratch), 5th – Darryn Reed (2 min).<\/p>\n
First female – Julie Connellan, Ride of the day – Peter Canny, Fastest time – Stu Brien (scratch) in 1h 19m 20s, ave. 38.9kph.<\/p>\n
