{"id":89273,"date":"2023-04-28T04:59:35","date_gmt":"2023-04-27T18:59:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=89273"},"modified":"2023-04-28T09:19:09","modified_gmt":"2023-04-27T23:19:09","slug":"bugle-salutes-at-anzac-day-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/bugle-salutes-at-anzac-day-service\/","title":{"rendered":"Bugle salutes at Anzac Day service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HUNDREDS marched down Inverleigh\u2019s High Street to take part in the town\u2019s annual Anzac Day service on Tuesday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Held at the Inverleigh War Memorial, the town\u2019s 108th Anzac Day service saw a Tiger Moth plane called Millie flying overhead and a catafalque party by members of 8\/7th Royal Victorian Regiment.<\/p>\n<p>Inverleigh RSL president Deema Johnston said the event was growing in participation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re trying to increase this greatly because Anzac Day\u2019s such an important day,\u201d he said. \u201cBannockburn, we had more than 500 people and Teesdale was a very large service as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is our service with the most moving parts today. At the RSL we\u2019ve actually got a long-range patrol vehicle on display from the north of Australia that I used to use while serving in NORFORCE.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a very humbling job because you\u2019re representing so many.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_89275\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-89275\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-89275\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/04\/IMG_66901-scaled-e1682483776651-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/04\/IMG_66901-scaled-e1682483776651-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/04\/IMG_66901-scaled-e1682483776651-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/04\/IMG_66901-scaled-e1682483776651-272x182.jpg 272w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/04\/IMG_66901-scaled-e1682483776651.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-89275\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Members of the Inverleigh Hawks Football Netball Club took part of a wreath-laying procession<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Members of the Inverleigh RSL also supported the Bannockburn, Shelford, and Teesdale memorial services.<\/p>\n<p>They also took part in what\u2019s become a traditional football and netball meeting between Inverleigh and Bannockburn later that afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>A wreath-laying ceremony took place with members of the Inverleigh Hawks Football Netball Club and Golden Plains Shire councillor Clayton Whitfield participating.<\/p>\n<p>A minute\u2019s silence was held with the playing of The Last Post as well as the Australian and New Zealand national anthems.<\/p>\n<p>Lance Corporal Jake Reid led the catafalque party in his first year as guard commander and said it was an honour to take part.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s always a privilege to do it,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s something all the boys in our unit put their hand up for.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m pretty sure this is my first service in Inverleigh and it\u2019s a very good turnout for what I thought was a small town.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_89278\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-89278\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-89278\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/04\/IMG_6759-scaled-e1682483882841-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/04\/IMG_6759-scaled-e1682483882841-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/04\/IMG_6759-scaled-e1682483882841-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/04\/IMG_6759-scaled-e1682483882841-272x182.jpg 272w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/04\/IMG_6759-scaled-e1682483882841.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-89278\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Five members of the 8\/7th Royal Victorian Regiment held a catafalque party at the Inverleigh War Memorial during the event.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The service was the eighth in Inverleigh for local Katrina Robson, who said it keeps getting bigger every year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe amount of people coming is getting better every year,\u201d she said. \u201cI think every family\u2019s got a member that was in the forces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve got a grandson who\u2019s just joined.
