MAJOR works have begun to install a roundabout at the intersection of Dyson Drive and Carngham Road.<\/p>\n
It will be built in stages, beginning on the north-east corner with the works involving earth moving and building pavements, drainage, asphalt and a traffic island.<\/p>\n
A statement from the Department of Transport said the works will create delays for residents, particularly at peak times.<\/p>\n
The first stage will involve a temporary lane closure on Ballarat-Carngham Road and speed reduction to 40kph.<\/p>\n
The works are part of the State Government funded Keeping Ballarat Moving initiative which is designed to upgrade traffic hotspots in the city.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur crews have begun construction of a new roundabout at this intersection, which will help to tackle congestion and boost safety for thousands of drivers,\u201d said Michael Bailey, regional director with the Department of Transport and Planning.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith Ballarat\u2019s population predicted to continue to grow significantly over the next 15 years, this project is crucial to improve traffic flow at one of the area\u2019s increasingly busy intersections.\u201d<\/p>\n
The intersection is a key route for residents in Lucas and Delacombe and growth in the suburbs has led to an increase in traffic.<\/p>\n
Usage is projected to increase by 60 per cent by 2041 and there were seven crashes which resulted in injury between 2014 and 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
