Carngham-Linton Football Club have received David Mundy as pick two in the Carlton Draft to play in this Saturday\u2019s game against Beaufort Football Club at Linton Recreation Reserve.<\/p>\n
Club president Greg Spratling said the players are thrilled to be able to play with such a high calibre player.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlaying purpose wise Mundy would have been the best equipped player obviously just out of the AFL system last year,\u201d he said. \u201cWe were seriously wrapped.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Carngham-Linton players did the club\u2019s voting and Mundy was in their top two picks.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s played over 350 games, and he played in a semi-final against Collingwood least year so his experience will be great as we have a very young side,\u201d said Spratling.<\/p>\n
He also said that the whole club is looking forward to Saturday\u2019s game.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of the young kids messaged me, and they were so over the moon,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMorale is up at the moment as we\u2019ve won a couple of games but to have him there will be amazing from the club\u2019s point of view and we\u2019re really looking forward to what he can bring.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mundy, who grew up playing football in Seymour, said he is hoping for a great game with the Saints.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to getting back to community football,\u201d he said. \u201cIt speaks to the core of me and the core of my personality helping out country football clubs.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mundy said it is crucial country football clubs continue to receive support with initiatives like the Carlton Draft.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m hoping we can get a whole stack of people there,\u201d he said. \u201cA lot of the football clubs in country Victoria are the lifeblood of the towns.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are the things that everyone participated in, and I strongly believe towns with great sporting environments are great places to live.<\/p>\n
\u201cTheir club\u2019s history so far this season is very, very impressive so I\u2019m hoping we can pack the house,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s a great opportunity to get behind the club and support the locals who prop these clubs up.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Spratling encouraged everyone to get down to Linton Rec Reserve on Saturday to see what he said will be an amazing game.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou don\u2019t often have an AFL clubs record player playing local footy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The full Carlton Draft saw 2003 Brownlow Medal winner Nathan Buckley as the number one pick, being selected to play for Nilma Darnum Football Netball Club in Gippsland.<\/p>\n
Carlton Draft brand director Sarah Wilcox said she is looking forward to this year\u2019s season.<\/p>\n
