MEMBERS of the Meredith History Interest Group are calling on the community to help contribute to an upcoming photo exhibition one of the region\u2019s localities later this year.<\/p>\n
The display, to take place in October will showcase the past and present of Morrisons, similarly to the history group’s exhibition on Steiglitz in late 2021.<\/p>\n
MHIG president Margaret Cooper said group members are searching for any photos to add to the exhibition.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Steiglitz display was amazing because it had a lot of people there then it faded away then it had a resurgence so we had a lot of photos for that,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe thought we\u2019d do the same for Morrisons. We have a lovely album for a start that was taken in 1906 with beautiful photos of the river, around the time all the goldmining had mostly finished.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s interesting to see what buildings are left. We\u2019re interested in the buildings back then, the people, the enterprise, so we\u2019re asking anyone if they\u2019ve got any photos to send them through.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Steiglitz exhibition was followed up with a book containing 70 displayed photographs, called Steiglitz \u2013 Thru the Lens and collated by Tony Scott.<\/p>\n
Ms Cooper said the history group aims to do the same with the upcoming show, and that it\u2019s important to similarly preserve the history of Morrisons.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are people in Morrisons who know about its history, but they\u2019re getting older,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re collecting history before it\u2019s lost. The photo book will also have a bit of information on each photo.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of the schools by the riverside, for example, the block was bought the community who put a hall next to it which was the town\u2019s main hall until the 1970s.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Morrisons photo exhibition will run at the Meredith Memorial Hall on Saturday, 14 and Sunday, 15 October.<\/p>\n
