{"id":90433,"date":"2023-06-11T04:57:15","date_gmt":"2023-06-10T18:57:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=90433"},"modified":"2023-06-06T09:00:48","modified_gmt":"2023-06-05T23:00:48","slug":"hall-alive-with-the-sound-of-music","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/hall-alive-with-the-sound-of-music\/","title":{"rendered":"Hall alive with the sound of music"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A MUSICAL classic will be coming to Ballarat this June with the Lyric Theatre\u2019s production of the <em>Sound of Music<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Final preparations are underway for the musical which tells the story of Maria Rainer, who becomes the governess of seven motherless children.<\/p>\n<p>Director, Stephen Armati, said the production is an opportunity to bring theatre back to its roots.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had a couple of big years with new age shows so we thought it was time to do a more traditional and child-based show,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great opportunity to re-visit one of the classics, since I don\u2019t think we\u2019ve done this since 1974, and bring it to a whole new audience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is taking theatre back so its essence, it\u2019s a pure artform with pure songs and a storyline with so many layers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The show has many elements, making it entertaining and enticing for viewers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s got love, tragedy, conflict, sub-stories running underneath it all,\u201d said Armati.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s so many of us who remember the movie growing up with catchy tunes we all know and love so it\u2019s just a great show.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Traditionally in many productions, women have less stage time then men, however, that is not the case in the <em>Sound of Music<\/em> with its female lead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe show is very female heavy which is a great opportunity as unfortunately women generally don\u2019t get shows with a lot of stage time but this one is the complete opposite,\u201d said Armati.<\/p>\n<p>The performances will provide an opportunity for locals to see a quality musical performance without travelling to Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou can go see a top-quality production for half the cost because everyone on stage is volunteers,\u201d said Armanti.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s also good for the local economy and good for local exposure with quite a few in the company going on to work professionally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Set for the stage at Civic Hall, the production opens Friday 30 June and tickets can be booked at <strong>ballaratlyrictheatre.com.au<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A MUSICAL classic will be coming to Ballarat this June with the Lyric Theatre\u2019s production of the Sound of Music.
