MEMBERS of the Inverleigh Progress Association are calling out for new people to join their ranks.<\/p>\n
With the group\u2019s administrative team being in place for some years, the call to action has continued despite a community-invite to their annual general meeting last week which saw 11 attendees.<\/p>\n
Inverleigh Progress Association president Hilary Hamilton said she wants to see the right people with fresh thinking instead of just a boost in numbers.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of the membership are getting older so we need some younger people to come in with some new ideas,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re open to any new ideas and a fresh way of looking at things. It\u2019s always nice to get a different perspective in the group. It\u2019s a case of needing the right members with the right enthusiasm.<\/p>\n
\u201cA lot of young people have work and other commitments and perhaps do their volunteering at school or other clubs.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen it comes to the progress association, I guess it\u2019s always been older members apart of it but this has become a point of concern for the past few years.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Hamilton said a reshuffling in their executive committee would be welcome, with their former long-time secretary recently having to take on the role of treasurer after having stepped down from the previous role last year.<\/p>\n
The Inverleigh Progress Association currently has about 18 members, most of whom are aged over 60 years old.<\/p>\n
Ms Hamilton has been part of the group for more than 15 years and said it\u2019s integral to Inverleigh.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re one of those organisations where once we\u2019re not there, people would realise just how much we do for the community,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Leigh News is under us. We keep an eye on what needs doing in the town. We\u2019ve auspiced seed funding on behalf of community groups who\u2019ve got grants. We recently completed the Inverleigh Community Plan.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe feel we play an important part in the community.\u201d<\/p>\n
