A LONGTIME Roo will bound from the Teesdale Cricket Club to Lethbridge next season, with past player Luke Keys announced as coach for the Rosellas\u2019 senior women.<\/p>\n
Keys\u2019 role was revealed late last month, and he\u2019ll lead the club\u2019s three women\u2019s sides for the upcoming 2023\/24 season set to start in October.<\/p>\n
With Lethbridge\u2019s women program established three years ago, he said he\u2019s excited to be a part of its development.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to getting in there and watching the ladies progress,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s pretty exciting for Lethbridge having the team the third year in a row. It brings a lot of depth to the club.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy partner plays there so I was down there most weekends and there\u2019s just a great feel so I reached out and said I was happy to help out which progressed to this.<\/p>\n
\u201cI coached a juniors season for Teesdale about six, seven years ago and I always wanted to go back to it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The position will mark a return to cricket for Keys, who played with the Rosellas for about 25 years before a recent hiatus of about three years.<\/p>\n
He anticipated training will start by the end of the month.<\/p>\n
The club\u2019s women\u2019s program began with two teams competing in the Barwon Women’s Cricket Competition\u2019s northern section before maintaining three sides every season since.<\/p>\n
With one team making it to the grand final each year, president Damien Harwood said the club is looking to get their top women\u2019s team into the A Grade competition this year.<\/p>\n
He said Keys\u2019 appointment is another step forward the club\u2019s contribution to women\u2019s cricket in the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cLuke\u2019s passion is what got me,\u201d he said. \u201cHe was excited about jumping onboard and taking the women\u2019s team forward.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019d be the second largest women\u2019s club in the Barwon region, if not western Victoria. Women\u2019s cricket is fundamentally important, it\u2019s massive for the community and Golden Plains itself.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt creates a wonderful family atmosphere and I\u2019ll continue to be a huge supporter of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Club members will look to expand their women\u2019s program to include a junior girls side, with come and try events set to take place later this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
