SMYTHESDALE\u2019S Woady Yaloak Recreation Facility is set to become a haven of childish whimsy and imagination as part of a storybook entertainment event later this month.<\/p>\n
The event has been organised by the town\u2019s four community coordinators, one of whom, Lin Hocking-Turnbull said it\u2019s all about giving kids a fun day out.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019ll be like a birthday party almost where kids can dress up, there\u2019ll be games, and we\u2019ve got people coming in to read them stories,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll have costumes available as well for the kids who don\u2019t bring any so they can all get involved.\u201d<\/p>\n
Alice, the titular character from Alice in Wonderland, will be among the storybook characters making an appearance to read kids books like That\u2019s Not My Tiger, My Furry Pooh Book, and Peppa Goes Swimming.<\/p>\n
The children\u2019s event is being put on as part of a $5000 funding pool given to the volunteer coordinators by the municipality for a three-year period of initiatives.<\/p>\n
Ms Hocking-Turnbull said the day will be held by the community for the community following direct consultation.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe do a questionnaire at the start of our three-year period for people to tell us what they want,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThings they wanted were more community events, especially for kids.\u201d<\/p>\n
The event will run from 11am to 2pm on Saturday 30 July with entry at $5 for an individual child or $10 for families.<\/p>\n
