THE digitised sounds of retrofuturism will resound from the Supernatural Amphitheatre later this year with German electronic pioneers Kraftwerk announced as the top act at Meredith Music Festival.<\/p>\n
Slated for three days in early December, the synth-pop foursome were announced as headliners of the festival\u2019s 31st incarnation last week, with the ballot for subsequent spots now open.<\/p>\n
A statement from organiser Aunty Meredith said the overseas act is a huge draw for the festival.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Robots in postcode 3333. Where to begin? Kraftwerk, quite simply, are the reason music sounds like it does today. Progenitors of pop. Of music as we know it,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n
“The cabling was laid for myriad musical revolutions. For post-punk, synth-pop, hip hop and techno.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd now, they set controls for the heart of the Sup\u2019er Computer.\u201d<\/p>\n
Formed in 1970 by the group\u2019s stalwart Ralf H\u00fctter, and Florian Schneider in D\u00fcsseldorf, West Germany, Kraftwerk is often credited as a major influence on contemporary pop.<\/p>\n
