AS he gets older, Daniel Connell is coming to terms with the fact that his body is always feeling a little bit sore somewhere.<\/p>\n
This realisation has inspired the name of the stand-up comedian\u2019s latest show I’m Always Sore<\/em>, which is set for the Ballaarat Mechanics\u2019 Institute on Saturday, 12 August at 8pm as part of his 2023 regional tour.<\/p>\n \u201cThe show has a loose throughline of getting older, having a child, and what that\u2019s like,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve asked myself, is there ever going to be a time where my body feels good again?<\/p>\n \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of talk in this show about excursions I\u2019ve been on, and interesting times I\u2019ve had on stage in different locations around Australia, which has been really well received.<\/p>\n \u201cI did a bunch of touring in regional areas in 2022, and I wrote a lot of this show around those tours.\u201d<\/p>\n The Melbourne-based artist is a comedy festival stalwart, having been on the bill of the Oxfam Gala and Opening Night Comedy Allstars Supershow.<\/p>\n But he said it\u2019s when he is on tour, visiting new regional places, that he usually discovers things about how people operate.<\/p>\n \u201cI stayed at a little motel in a place called Moora in WA, and the lady asked if we\u2019d be doing any washing while we were there,\u201d Connell said.<\/p>\n \u201cI said no, but she said, \u2018if you do, use the washing machines provided.\u2019 I said, what do you mean? She said, \u2018don’t boil your socks and jocks in the kettle in your room.\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cI never knew people do that, so I delve into that a bit deeper in the show.<\/p>\n \u201cA couple of bad gigs over the last 12 months get a mention, and it\u2019s all encapsulated in being sore and grumpy.<\/p>\n \u201cIf you want to really enjoy listening to someone else’s horrible experiences, off stage or on stage, this is one for you. You\u2019ll feel good about yourself and your job, put it that way.\u201d<\/p>\n
