WITH potholes dotted about the region, members of the Advance Meredith Association are calling on people to let them know what they think are the most prominent ones around town.<\/p>\n
Having compiled a list of potholes over the past two weeks, AMA members are aiming to present their findings to Golden Plains Shire.<\/p>\n
The pothole audit started after AMA members reached out to the community in June via Facebook asking for people to highlight what they\u2019d like to see done for the town.<\/p>\n
Group secretary Kerrie Kruger said it was the most frequent response they\u2019d received.<\/p>\n
\u201cPotholes just became the big thing,\u201d she said. \u201cEveryone commented on them. A lot of these roads have been like this since before the floods last year.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome people have said they go on for miles down their road. Some have said their tape-measure isn\u2019t long enough.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Shire has filled in a couple over the last few weeks but nowhere near all of them.\u201d<\/p>\n
A petition to be coupled with AMA\u2019s presentation was released earlier this week and can be signed at Meredith Rural and Pet Supplies, Meredith Roadhouse, and at the post office.<\/p>\n
Ms Kruger said she expects their findings to be sent to the municipality by the end of next month.<\/p>\n
AMA committee member Bev Loveday has been one of the instrumental people marking and mapping the town\u2019s potholes as part of the initiative.<\/p>\n
She said they\u2019re part of a larger issue with Meredith\u2019s roads.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe thing around here is there\u2019s no footpaths here which means we don\u2019t have gutters,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, the issue is once it\u2019s wet you can\u2019t drive off the road and if you do, you hit a pothole so it\u2019s become quite dangerous. We also have children and adults walking on the roads.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms Kruger said Meredith\u2019s Midland Highway\/Wallace Road thoroughfare, managed by VicRoads, is a major pothole hotspot and that they\u2019ll be writing to them as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cA few people have said they\u2019ve made complaints to VicRoads as individuals but they\u2019ve heard nothing,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs Advance Meredith, as a voice, we might be heard.\u201d<\/p>\n
