TWO years after developing their senior women\u2019s side, members of the Bannockburn Cricket Club are looking to build their junior female ranks.<\/p>\n
As part of the initiative, free registration and playing gear is being offered to players, with equipment provided by the club.<\/p>\n
BCC women\u2019s coordinator Brittany Mitchell said it\u2019s important for young women to have the opportunities to play locally.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re looking to get some junior teams off the ground and we\u2019ll be submitting the teams into the Geelong competition,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe free registration will be the first season and it\u2019s to break down the barriers for participation and get them involved.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis will be our first time with junior girls. Anyone over 14 can participate in our women\u2019s teams but we want to open it up to girls locally so they don\u2019t have to travel to Geelong.\u201d<\/p>\n
Girls aged eight to 19 are able to take part in the initiative.<\/p>\n
The club currently has two senior women\u2019s sides with their younger girls playing in their mixed teams.<\/p>\n
Ms Mitchell said the girl\u2019s recruitment effort will kick off with a come and try day on Sunday 11 September.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s when we\u2019re going to try to get as many down as we can to give it a go, try it out, and attract some new players,\u201d she said. \u201cThe priority is to see what interest is out there.<\/p>\n
\u201cI know the Geelong Junior Cricket Association has worked really hard to make junior girls\u2019 competitions available, as an emerging club it\u2019s a good opportunity for us to open this up.\u201d<\/p>\n
