LINTON could soon become the best-mowed town in the entire western region.<\/p>\n
The community\u2019s Progress Association has been presented with a ride-on lawn mower by the Golden Plains Shire, which volunteers will be able to use if grass gets a little unruly in between scheduled visits from municipal maintenance workers.<\/p>\n
The vehicle is expected to be fully maintained, and the association plans to train volunteers in how to use it, so they can also support residents in need of help in their gardens and keep the grass at a tidy level in the town\u2019s park and reserve precincts.<\/p>\n
Linton Progress Association member Michael Vogel is one of the volunteers set to skill-up on the ride-on, and said the addition is a welcome one.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s great,\u201d he said. \u201cI’m yet to receive some training but I got a run through at the time of delivery.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe mower is to serve a dual purpose. When the grass grows quicker than the council’s planned mowing schedule, we can tidy up a bit of local council land, like Edinburgh Reserve.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe can help out a member of the community who’s experiencing some difficulty to keep the grass on their property at a safe level as both a fire mitigation and a beautification effort.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf we can help someone in need, that\u2019s our role as a civic-minded community.\u201d<\/p>\n
