WITH their senior women\u2019s side established two years ago, members of the Lethbridge Cricket Club are looking to maintain the teams with a come and try day this Sunday.<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s coordinator Georgia Connors was one of the first players to sign up to the club\u2019s female team back in 2021 and said it\u2019s important to retain the squads.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe aim is to hopefully get a few women in, and hopefully us girls can get them over the line into joining,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re looking to maintain our third women\u2019s team which we built last year. We\u2019ve lost a couple players this year, so it\u2019s about filling those gaps again.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re the only club in Golden Plains to have three women\u2019s sides up and running.\u201d<\/p>\n
The come and try event will be headed by Ms Connors and well as recently appointed women\u2019s coach Luke Keys followed by a pre-season training session on the same day.<\/p>\n
Ms Connors said the club is looking to secure about five new players to fill their established teams.<\/p>\n
One of the club\u2019s women\u2019s teams has reached Barwon Women\u2019s Cricket Competition\u2019s grand final for the past three seasons, and a Rosellas will be playing in the league\u2019s A Grade competition this summer.<\/p>\n
Ms Connor said the selection is a leap forward for women\u2019s cricket in the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a great opportunity,\u201d she said. \u201cObviously we\u2019re trying to strive for our junior girls to come through as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlaying the top-quality cricket that\u2019s there for us to play is a great look on the club and an inspiration for the younger girls coming up.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019ll be a challenge for us being pushed up like that but I think we\u2019re ready to take it on and see how we go.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
