LOCAL artists Rosie Grundell and Kate Wise are holding a watercolour painting workshop in Smythesdale next month.<\/p>\n
The class, which costs $45 and includes all materials, is designed to be a fun and informal way to explore watercolour painting and learn new skills.<\/p>\n
Grundell said the aim of the session is to allow participants the opportunity to explore their creative side without worrying about buying materials or cleaning up the mess afterwards.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not so much about the tuition kind of thing it\u2019s about supplying people with the opportunity and materials and paints,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will be a series of exercises about how the colours interact together, painting techniques and a few simple shapes.<\/p>\n
\u201cI chose watercolour for the simplicity as it\u2019s a quick clean up and you don\u2019t have to wait hours for anything to dry.\u201d<\/p>\n
The main thing Grundell said she hopes people take from the experience is an understanding of whether watercolour is something they\u2019d like to peruse further.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hope people get to have a go at watercolour and discover they want to go on with it or realise it\u2019s not for them and try something else,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
It is hoped this first workshop will be the start of many sessions showcasing different mediums and techniques.<\/p>\n
\u201cHopefully they\u2019ll be lots of different workshops with watercolour, then acrylics, then painting of mushrooms and wreath making,\u201d said Grundell.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019ll be lots of different things if the community has the interest.\u201d<\/p>\n
The workshop will be held at Thru the Gate Caf\u00e9 on Wednesday 4 October from 11am to 1pm.<\/p>\n
