What is your name?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Di Bresciani OAM nee Hofmaier.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What is your occupation?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Musician (teacher – piano) and a visual artist.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What brought you to Ballarat?<\/strong><\/p>\n

My family, especially my older sibling, who insisted I go to boarding school. We lived in the Mallee on a wheat and sheep farm. Ballarat College were thought to be the best, and nearest. Both my brothers attended Ballarat College, so at nearly 12 years I went to Clarendon, as it was known.<\/p>\n

I remember the art gallery paintings, and Sunday walks around the Wendouree Lake with the boarders.<\/p>\n

The amazing Begonia Festival was truly memorable.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What is your earliest memory?<\/strong><\/p>\n

My grandfather singing a song to me whilst he was fixing a door. That must be 78 years ago.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What is the most courageous thing you\u2019ve ever done?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I am not courageous! Maybe learning to face-up to people.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What is happiness?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Maybe coping, and being happy enough.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What would you do to make a difference in the world?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Perhaps I can help those around me feel a bit better.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What would your friends say is your greatest quality?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Perhaps painting and teaching.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What would your enemies say is your greatest failing?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I don\u2019t know if I have enemies, but then I don\u2019t go out in the big world looking.<\/p>\n

Who or what has been the greatest influence in your life?<\/strong><\/p>\n

My parents, my husband, children and grandchildren – after that music and painting.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What is your greatest vice?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Taking it easy.<\/p>\n

Who last caused you to cry?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I cry almost daily. Really!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What’s the criticism that has most stuck with you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

When I can\u2019t please in my work.<\/p>\n

What advice would you offer your teenage self?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Find your place in the world.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What do you hope the future might hold for you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Being able to continue as I am.<\/p>\n

What is the best decision ever you have made?<\/strong><\/p>\n

To buy this home, and marry Lino.<\/p>\n

What do you like to cook and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I used to cook but Lino loves being in charge in the kitchen, so I busy myself elsewhere. Have done this for ages now so cooking feels a bit foreign.<\/p>\n

What is your most treasured possession, and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n

My paints, my Steinway, my pearls, and Lino.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What would you change if you could edit your past?<\/strong><\/p>\n

I would give more love to my parents, especially my mother.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What or who inspires you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Music, art, flowers, garden.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What is your favourite quote?<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cTomorrow is tomorrow. Nothing comes from nothing,\u201d Shakespeare.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What person, living or dead, would invite to dinner party?<\/strong><\/p>\n

My brother Keith Hofmaier, we would have fun.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What technological\/scientific development boggles your mind?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Always intrigued. Just this week, new discoveries about gravity and quantum measurement of electrons.<\/p>\n

What qualities do you admire in other people?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Informed, intelligent, and caring.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What was your first job?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Teaching piano.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What did you want to be when you were growing-up?<\/strong><\/p>\n

An artist.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What scares you?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Terrified of escalators going down, and heights, generally.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What do you wish someone had told you when you were starting out?<\/strong><\/p>\n

People take advantage. You think you are helping but you are soft touch – a sucker!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What was the name of your favourite teacher, and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Not teacher but interpreter of my life. Gerard Vaughan (Australian art historian and curator) because he clarified some of it.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What was your favourite toy?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Coloured chalks, grinding them and suspending in glasses.<\/p>\n

Still value so much a lifelike doll my Mother bought and dressed for me when my brother married (dressed it as a replica of the bride).<\/p>\n

What is something about you which is still the same as when you were a child?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Being able to love, feeling, enjoying music, arts, and close relationships.<\/p>\n
