LOCAL environmental group Geelong Sustainability has announced the return of one of its largest yearly events.<\/p>\n
Known as Sustainable House Day, the annual three-week event now in its 15th year and seeking to provide people in the region an opportunity to learn more about low-impact living.<\/p>\n
Running from 7 to 26 October, the period aims to promote sustainable living and design across Golden Plains Shire as well as Greater Geelong, Bellarine, Queenscliffe, and the Surf Coast regions.<\/p>\n
“We are thrilled to host Sustainable House Day once again for the Geelong and surrounding areas, bringing together the community and experts in the field to promote sustainable living and design,” Geelong Sustainability chief executive officer Dan Cowdell said.<\/p>\n
“With a diverse range of events, including workshops and a Q&A session, we aim to empower attendees with the knowledge and inspiration they need to make sustainable choices in their own lives.”<\/p>\n
The event begins with a seminar on Saturday 7 October and featuring Peter Maddison, the host of Grand Designs Australia and founding director of Maddison Architects.<\/p>\n
Attendees will get the chance to delve into the world of sustainable design with Maddison, who\u2019ll provide examples from both Grand Designs Australia and his own architectural practice.<\/p>\n
On 15 October, eight homes in the region will be open to the public and from 10am to 5pm attendees will have the chance to see sustainable properties.<\/p>\n
The opportunity will allow visitors to engage with the homeowners and architects, builders, and trade experts, and gain first-hand insights into spaces.<\/p>\n
Sustainable House Day concludes on 21 October with three workshops over two different sessions at 10am to 11am and 12pm to 1pm.<\/p>\n
The sessions cover permaculture, energy efficacy, and sustainable building design.<\/p>\n
