LINTON is looking pretty in pink this Breast Cancer Awareness Month as an annual fundraising campaign returns for a good cause.<\/p>\n
The Pink Up Linton initiative, led by Cristine Gall and the staff from Linton\u00a0<\/span>Takeaway, raises<\/span>\u00a0money each October for the McGrath Foundation, which funds breast care nurses.<\/span><\/p>\n As part of the push the store has been filled with pink decorations, and they\u2019re also donating $1 from each hot beverage sold to the McGrath Foundation.<\/p>\n This Saturday 14 October, a sausage sizzle will be held at 11am on the Linton Takeaway veranda, and the pink morning tea is set for Tuesday 31 October at 11am in the same location.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s going really well,\u201d Ms Gall said. \u201cAt the start of the week we\u2019d already sold two books of raffle tickets and raised $600 from the hot drinks.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s an important cause, so we encourage everyone to come along to the sausage sizzle on voting day, and the morning tea. Last year we had a very good turnout.\u201d<\/p>\n Breast cancer patients currently have about a 92 per cent survival rate within five years, although 3200 Australian women and men still die from the disease annually.<\/p>\n The McGrath Foundation is aiming to combat this by providing 250 breast care nurses to cancer centres across the country within the next two years.<\/p>\n These nurses work to provide patients, and their families, the physical, psychological, and emotional support they need.<\/p>\n Tickets for the Pink Up Linton morning tea are available for $5 a head, and attendance should be registered via 5344 7362 or in store to ensure appropriate catering.<\/p>\n In 2022, Pink Up Linton raised about $2400 within the 31 days, and Ms Gall and her staff are aiming to break last year\u2019s amount.
