SATURDAY\u2019S match between Teesdale and Little River cricket clubs marked a special occasion for a longtime Roos member.<\/p>\n
The showdown was the 250th for Shaun Campbell, who said he was blown away by the response to his landmark game.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was really overwhelming,\u201d he said. \u201cThere were a lot of people who\u2019d come up to watch and support us.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe highlight for me was getting to play with my brother, cousins, and a lot of mates I\u2019ve played cricket with over time.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe club put on a really good day. I think I got a headache because of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
A life member of the Teesdale CC, Campbell said he\u2019s been with the Roos from \u201cday dot\u201d following his parents\u2019 move to town soon after the club\u2019s establishment.<\/p>\n
Members of Teesdale Cricket Club first took to the pitch in 1983, and the Campbell family has been a longtime fixture of the group, with Shaun\u2019s brother Leigh currently serving as president, as did their father.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome people do call it the Campbell Cricket Club instead,\u201d Shaun said. \u201cMy brother\u2019s president. Our dad was president. My younger brother was a captain and coach. So was I. My cousins were presidents, secretaries, and treasurers.\u201d<\/p>\n
A highlight for Shaun is the group\u2019s non-consecutive run of premiership wins which started in the 2008\/2009 season.<\/p>\n
Shaun, who\u2019s lived in Teesdale all his life, said it\u2019s his family\u2019s connection to the club and his camaraderie with lifelong friends that\u2019s kept him devoted to the Roos.<\/p>\n
\u201cI tried a few stints of pre-season in Geelong and South Barwon but I just love Teesdale, and there\u2019s nothing better to play cricket with your mates and sit down with a beer afterwards,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe club was like a little community growing up and it always has been.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve all got kids now and we\u2019re getting to see them doing what we did growing up.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
