FOLLOWING membership boosts and the introduction of new programs, Ballarat\u2019s top futsal club has been nominated for one of Football Victoria\u2019s Community Award categories.<\/p>\n
Futsal Ballarat is one of four nominees up for the Futsal Club\/Centre of the Year.<\/p>\n
Dermott Tebb, Futsal Ballarat\u2019s director of operations said it\u2019s exciting to be acknowledged by the state\u2019s governing football body.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo be recognised by peers and the governing body hopefully gives a bit more credibility to the club and we can provide a greater platform to grow the sport and club,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a good accomplishment from the club and it\u2019s good to see with everyone enjoying themselves throughout the weeks, the club\u2019s getting the recognition it deserves.\u201d<\/p>\n
Established in 2009, Futsal Ballarat has grown from four children to in excess 1100 members, more than 150 of which are female.<\/p>\n
Tebb said it\u2019s Futsal Ballarat\u2019s holistic approach that\u2019s helped them achieve success.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got things starting for kids from three years and older and we\u2019ve got development training and competitions like our new girls-only programs with dedicated nights,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn top of that we\u2019ve got our academy program where we take the most talented kids from each age group into competitions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve got an upcoming one in Gold Coast in January with about 40-odd girls and boys.<\/p>\n
Tebb said their nomination reflected a growing regional interest in the sport.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s where the game is growing the most,\u201d he said. \u201cThere\u2019s another pathway called the regional futsal series we created a few years ago.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s getting to about 75 per cent of state champs so regionally, the sport\u2019s growing astronomically.\u201d<\/p>\n
The awards winners will be announced during a Football Victoria Community in Business event on Thursday 16 November at the MCG.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
