IT\u2019S time to switch on some early festive spirit in Golden Plains Shire\u2019s north. Linton and District Progress Association members are encouraging individuals and families across the town to decorate their houses and front gardens with Christmas lights. Their aim is to not only brighten up the town, and fill it with colour, throughout late-November and December, but to bring the community together. LDPA member Michael Vogel said the association will also run a competition, with prizes for the best displays. \u201cWe\u2019re trying to get the community switched on,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s something to put us on the map a bit. \u201cThe plans aren\u2019t complicated, we\u2019re just giving people a bit of time to decorate up, and we\u2019ll drive around at night and have a look at who has got something pretty going. \u201cWe\u2019ll announce the winners at our community barbecue on the 2nd of December.\u201d Mr Vogel said the association hopes more townwide events like the Light Up campaign, and last weekend\u2019s Linton Garage Sale, can bring some more excitement to area, and attract more visitors. \u201cWe had a bumper day at the Town Wide Garage Sale, and it was like being in main street Ballarat, there was that much traffic in the town,\u201d he said. \u201cIt was nice to see so many people on the street, driving into the town, and past other things. They realise Linton\u2019s not just a village you drive through, there are reasons to come here. \u201cYou can bring your family out for a Sunday drive, have coffee, and a meal, have a picnic, see the cemetery and the Vera statue. \u201cEvents like this also create a cycle of prosperity for locals living here.\u201d The Linton community barbecue will be held on Saturday 2 December in the skatepark precinct, opposite the Linton Takeaway.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
