{"id":95523,"date":"2024-01-08T04:57:06","date_gmt":"2024-01-07T17:57:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=95523"},"modified":"2023-12-20T14:33:38","modified_gmt":"2023-12-20T03:33:38","slug":"region-readies-for-golden-event","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/region-readies-for-golden-event\/","title":{"rendered":"Region readies for golden event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE history and beauty of the region\u2019s organs are once again going to come into focus with the annual Organs of the Ballarat Goldfields festival.<\/p>\n<p>Running from Friday 12 January to Tuesday 16 January, the program includes a range of one-hour concerts as well as social gatherings.<\/p>\n<p>This is the 28th year of the festival which was founded by Italian organist Sergio de Pieri along with Judith Houston and Voi Williams.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt started a long time ago when my former music teacher came to Ballarat for a visit wanting to explore the area because he heard there was some beautiful old pipe organs,\u201d said Ms Houston.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe went around the district and we found some beautiful old 19<sup>th<\/sup> century instruments in little churches, so he decided to invent a festival.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt started in 1996 and we had 22 recitals for one hour each as well as picnics and a festival dinner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Houston said she is particularly looking forward to the opening concert at St Patrick\u2019s Cathedral where Alchemy and the Melbourne Baroque Orchestra will perform George Frideric Handel\u2019s <em>Alexander\u2019s<\/em> <em>Feast.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cSt Patrick\u2019s Cathedral is a beautiful place in the evening because the sunset will come through the stained-glass windows,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s always a beautiful experience and we have our final concert there on the last day as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The event attracts visitors to Ballarat from around Australia and the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe now have a very enthusiastic lot of people that come from all over the place,\u201d said Ms Houston.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwo thirds of them don\u2019t live in the Ballarat region at all and they come here and spend a few days.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a lovely little thing to happen here and it\u2019s not showing any signs of dying as every year people are keen to come again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To book tickets and see the full festival program visit <strong>ballaratorgans.com.au<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE history and beauty of the region\u2019s organs are once again going to come into focus with the annual Organs of the Ballarat Goldfields festival.
